Hi! My name is Zengshengyu, I graduated from The Art Institute of Vancouver (LaSalle College) where I completed the Game Art & Design program.

I’m focused on system and gameplay design because it always opens my brain and getting to an interesting and crazy design moment.

Also, I am a strategy game fan, like to play the game such as Hearts of Iron, Stellaris, Crusader Kings...

Chaos

 

Chaos is a third-person combat game in UE4 by using a special weapon system allow player can always switch or combination it when facing a different situation, try to make the experience between Dark soul and Dynasty Warriors which full of fast kills but challenging

WHAT ABOUT ME

Developer

 

Initially, I designed a 2d platform action game and used the Unity engine, but my low programming skills brought me a lot of resistance during the development process. After repeated weighing, I switched the platform to UE4 and changed it to a third person combat game. The third person can maximize the performance advantages of the UE4 engine. As the development progressed, I faced many problems, including weapon systems, enemy behavior, and UI and tutorials. But these problems have been solved. I also learned a lot in this development.

WHAT ABOUT EXP

Solo Capstone

 

Individual development is lonely, no one can give you any suggestions in the initial design, and all the ideas are completed in your brain. As the development progresses, after you have the first playable version, the suggestions from the players will be very important. I have modified the game mechanism more than once. Their suggestions are very meaningful. Can see blind spots that developers can't see. This is a great experience, so far I have developed games or experiences independently using different engines. This will help me more when I work or manage my team in the future.

Galactic Cluster Luck

 

Galactic Cluster Luck is a local multiplayer game that focuses on short high-octane deathmatch rounds in which the winner(s) accumulate points. The player will battle each other with a multitude of Sci-Fi weaponry that works in tangent with the various levels to create intense encounters. Lastly once a player has reached a certain number of victories will become a unique alien gene and must battle against the three other players in
a boss likes to encounter.

WHAT ABOUT ME

TECHNICAL / LEVEL DESIGNER

I am the VFX Artist and Technical Designer, working on Level Design in the early stages of the development, and then started working as a VFX Designer due to not having enough artists in the team, it is very hard at beginning because I have less art skill, but is getting batter when I keep learning.

SMALL GROUP EXP

We start with 9 people when we are making early design, then we got 4 arts in the second semester that was the time we work very hard and have more expectation for our game due to the arts working. Unfortunately, all the arts left in the next semester, which was a challenge for ours me and my other teammate start working on art, and I focus on particle effect. The EXP is profound and useful, it will absolutely help me in the future.

DUNGEON SUMMONER SIMULATOR

 

Dungeon Summoner Simulator is a free Gacha/Loot-box open experience, with no any in-game purchase, the only thing player need to do is opening Gacha and get the experience, for have batter experience when player collecting monster, I also write down some background story about the game world why the player needs to open Gacha.

WHAT ABOUT ME

DESIGNER / PROGRAMMER

 

My first full mobile game solo project, back to the original design when my other classmate is looking for design gameplay and mobile control, I decide that jump over the gameplay and just give the player experience, and that how this game born. Due to that, I want to build a full experience for Gacha, I got lost of jobs to do, UI control, Player infantry, different loot-box...I worked very hard on it and at the same time, I review my programmer skill a lot.

GACHA GAME / FIRST PUBLIC RELEASE

As a Designer and Programmer for this game, I learn lots about solo develop and balance between my program skill and my design, it is very interesting and challenged to use limited skill and assets to make the exp as what I want in early design.
